Let’s keep in mind folks this guy is a great athlete but he has flaws that will make him average or just above average in the pros. Let’s evaluate them.
\n1. He has questionable character. While I’d like to believe this, they are still a bad sign. He was kicked out of Fla. I know this is old school thinking but he certainly was not in college to learn. I doubt he even enrolled in the spring.
\n2. He played only one season against elite competition. Wouldn’t you like a guy taken that high to have a little more of a proven record? I sure would, that’s a lot of money to part with.
\n3. He played in a Mickey Mouse offense in college. No one will doubt Gus M. can coordinate a exciting offense, but it’s a gimmick much like a lot of college offenses. How good is he really at playing qb the way God intended.
\n4. The so called “College qb ” theory. Fans of burgerboy.net, this is not a theory it’s true. When it got hot in tbe kitchen his first thought is tuck and run. (See statement 3). That’s not a great quality in the pros. You need to stay in the pocket and fire the pigskin down field. Name some great qb’s the last 30 years. Aikman, Marino, Elway, Manning, Brady, Favre, Montana. You notice no where in that conversation was a runner. Not Vick, Not Cunningham, not Tebow for you SEC homers. There’s a reason, this is a passing league for qb’s, not a run everytime you get scared league. He had a bad workout at the combine, he did not impress Gruden. He claims he was not used to the receivers. Well Cam, in today’s NFL, you’ll be lucky to have the same tandem for more than three seasons. <\/p>\n
Bottom line is this, take the kid, develop him, he will make you proud one day, but I don’t take him before 15. Just like Tebow, the first round is not for developing players. That’s what later rounds are for. He will get drafted probably top 5, but I bet in the long run I’m proven right. Do I miss? Yes, Do I hit more than I miss?
