I would like to go on record, that under no certain terms, I am against the Spurs being fined for benching their team. This was not a case of benching guys to get a better lottery position, that I am against. While I do think a lot of this is gamesmanship, the league should not be able to dictate which players you play and when you play them. Yes it would have been nice to have them in suits on the bench, but ultimately let’s be honest, whether they are on the bench in suits, or on a plane headed home, they were not playing. Yes you can make the argument that the Miami fans got screwed, but when they have a team with Lebron, Dwayne and Pat Riley running the thing, it’s hardly like the Spurs screwed over fans at the Iowa City County Fair, that do not get to see big time players. I had this happen to me this summer. I took a good friend of mine to her first ever soccer game. It was against the L.A. Galaxy, Landon Donavon was hurt, and Beckham was in England shaking hands and kissing babies for the Olympics. I cannot name one player on our local team here in Dallas Ft. Worth, but every sports fan around probably knows who David Beckham is. Was I sad for me? Yes, Was I said for Erin, hell yes. But when it was all said and done, we saw a good game, great conversation and made the best of it. Now in my example, I did get screwed a little bit, its not like the FC Dallas club has two players anywhere near the caliber of Beckham and Donovan. I think Coach Pop had tired guys, and there was in his eyes, no sense in letting his tired team lose to someone they could be playing for the championship, and giving Miami the mental edge going into that series.
