This is always a interesting time of year because of coaching changes. Some are for bigger and better jobs, some are losing jobs, and some are losing dream jobs such as Rick N. at UCLA a season ago or Randy Shannon a couple of seasons ago. I understand that you have to take a better job, and I do not personally make you a Larry Brown, Bobby Petrino or Rick Pitino. What does leave a bad taste in my mouth is John L. Sullivan and Gus Malzahn. I just think it’s rotten to take a job and leave after a year. When no one else would touch Gus because of his wife’s big mouth, Arkansas State took a chance on you. And while the reality is that no one blames you the money was a jillion more, it still is a shitty thing to do. Same with John L. Smith, it is tough to say that you do not take the money because it is so much more, but it still does not show a lot of personal pride and loyalty. Arkansas probably deserved the bad season because they have historically shown no class. They hire Bobby Petrino , which is the King of no Class, away from Atlanta with games left on the calendar, and then act surprised when he pokes his gal from fund raising, gives her a big promotion, then spills his motorcycle and lies about everything. They then go to Wisconsin and do not do the customary thing of asking for permission to interview current Wisconsin Coach B. before they take him away. There is a right way and a wrong way of handling things. Arkansas over the last few years has handled it wrong. Read the following article from a few years back by my friend Gene Wojciechowski

When you are done laughing, keep in mind everything he said was consistently true, and more than most coaches have done. But most Razorback fans, wrote in claiming a East Coast Bias, yada, yada, yada. That’s all bullshit, you hired a snake and you got bit.

Texas Tech made a good hire 3 years ago, after making a bad fire the season before. Yes Mike Leach should not have done what he did. But the reality is this was simply a way to get back at him for holding you hostage over contract negotiations the season before. This was their way of screwing him, for him screwing them. I thought Tubbs was a wonderful hire at the time. A proven winner, Miami Hurricane ties, defensive minded, which the West Texas Plains need, but he did not pan out. HIs departure, while shocking lots of people did not leave any Red Raider that I am aware of in tears. His 3 seasons were like a roller coaster, up and down, up and down. The fans never embraced him, after following in Leach’s steps and he truth be known did no really embrace the fans or city. If you have concerns about this check in with my friend Courtney. A TT grad, she married a guy I put a hell of a lot of stock in when it comes to sports knowledge, David Stroot. After all when you give Will Clark a pinch of your skoal at a Archery Range, that makes you pretty damn manly in my book. Courtney was the first to report Klff K. will be the next coach in Lubbock, and while this is not a exciting move nationally, locally I think this does a lot for the fan base. Is he young? yes Will he probably get outcoached on some things ? yes. Does this popular hire mend a lot of fences that were destroyed with Leach’s departure, and Tubbs roller coaster. There is no doubt high octane will be the brand of offense, and I suspect playing a season or two under Bill Belichick will have taught him about defense and running a program in a solid manor. He has a good coaching pedigree so far, and let’s be honest if you take Chad Morris, and not Kliff, you would have got killed and rightfully so. You either needed to go to a higher tier of coach, or take Kliff. For some of Courtney’s fine thoughts on Red Raider nation please follow her @mrsstrootles

Tenn. I think will do alright under Butch Jones, he has done well at other stops, and should do there.

Auburn should do well under Gus. He brought in a first tier defensive coordinator, and even though its Mickey Mouse, players enjoy playing under his system.

Western Kentucky did well. Bobby P. will get them a lot of short term press, some recruits they not have got other wise and I bet he does not coach a full four seasons. If the over under was Christmas day 2015, I would take the under.

I think Brett B. is a interesting hire in Fayetteville. He can coach, but it is definitely out of his comfort zone being a Big 10 kind of guy.

I do not recall nor care who Kentucky took, but I find it interesting that a school that is the kind of cheats in basketball for 60 years, is not going to even dip a toe in the Bobby Petrino pool. Here is a thought. Show me another college that has a 1-2 punch in basketball and college football. Jim O and Urban M. come to mind at Ohio State. But who else in modern times?
