The last few years the business of sports has fascinated me, maybe even more than the games themselves. I have seen the games, I have been to baseball at all levels, I have seen football at all levels, I have been to car races, golf matches, golf majors, etc. I have seen the great beach volleyball legends like Sinjin Smith and Karch Kiray, I have shaken hands with Michael Andretti, and watched John McEnroe walk by me in the airport with a hat pulled down low and sunglasses where the only two that knew it was him, was he and I. This is not going to be salaries, or not a lot of. Lets be honest, a lot of people with minimal effort can find out what a ballplayer makes, or possibly even what his income is from endorsements, this is more than that. Or at least that will be the goal. This will be questions for the “Thinking Man’s Sports Fan ” . Things like what does it cost a Nascar team per race? Or round about? What does it cost for the famed month of May in Indianapolis leading into the Indy 500? What does it cost to sponsor a Nascar race and one of the better tracks? What does a big time school like Michigan or Notre Dame get paid for the apparel contract? What is a athlete not in a big three sport get paid / break down? Have you ever asked yourself what does a caddy make? This will be my 2014 columns, and I run across tidbits I will let you , the burgerboy.net fans out there know. I will still have my wild and crazy stats posts, because they are too good to release, but the rest of the 2014 will be the business side of sports. I hope you enjoy as much as I do.
