One of the great sports in the world. I love it, the atmosphere, the passion, on campus stadiums, bands, tailgates, for the most part reasonably priced, what is not to like ? So here are some of my thoughts 3 weeks into the season.

Chip Kelly. I love him and like most of you I am guilty of drinking the Kool Aid. But have we all bought into a guy that no longer has the Midas touch ? To be fair we are three weeks into season 2. We know that UCLA does not have some of the facilities of a lot of schools, we know that the Chip philosophy and system has to be built , but for the sake of argument let’s look at some stats. When he was at Oregon they were one hell of a team. His first two years in Philly at 10-6 both seasons, one was a playoff team that lost in round one in the last seconds. His second year, they had the same 10 win season and no playoffs. Sometimes that happens, not often 10 wins does not get it done but it happens. Then he gets fired for going 6-9, next year he gets one season in SF and goes 2-14, so we can start to see a trend. last season he goes 3-9 and this year he is 0-3 and honestly he may and probably will lose to WSU and then Arizona bringing his record to 0-5. So since his record combined 11-35 since his last winning season. Let’s say he does go 0-5, that means to make a bowl game , in an era of everyone gets to go he would have be 6-1 in the remaining 7. Does anyone honestly think or seen a reason to believe this team can be 6-6 at seasons end ? There is an article this morning for full disclose I spoke of these ideas with a friend last week , and was typing this up before I was aware of it, that wonders if Chip has gave up on UCLA already ? Does UCLA have buyers remorse? Quietly in board rooms, offices, and sports bars, I am sure they do. They are paying a lot of money and this is an era of instant gratification. They sure as hell are not getting that.

The Mighty SEC, ha ! I have always thought the SEC was very good but certainly not as good as they portray. They are a product of a rabid fan base, in states where a lot of them do not even have high level professional teams, so all they have is to hold on to the states major colleges. I can give you a classic example. Texas is playing Rice, you know where Texas Tech fan is ? Neither do I because they are sure as hell not rooting for Texas just because they are in the Big 12. Now Take Arkansas fan, when Georgia plays Oklahoma, you can bet your sweet ass that Arkansas, Mississippi, and South Carolina fan are all rooting for Georgia, all calling in national radio shows singing the praises for the SEC, but no one ever asks them, about not having a dog in the fight. They are basically a conference that is a union for all schools. During Bowl games, rather that sending schools to bowls based on record at the end of the season the SEC chooses which school goes where to protect them and the bullshit SEC brand. That is why the Aggies could not play Texas a couple of seasons ago, and ended up in Nashville instead for a bowl. Some of the schools that have beaten SEC Teams the last couple of seasons, North Texas, BYU, Wyoming, Memphis, Georgia State, Kansas State and Colorado State, please feel free to stop me when you see one of these listed and tell me they are a power house.

Some of my other take aways in brief, Harbaugh, while Michigan will not fire him, just like UCLA will not fire Chip, has the newness wore off? Is there buyers remorse, has ass kicking’s by OSU, Florida and overtime against Army have Jim, who I am a big fan of looking at the NFL and seeing which teams have a QB if he makes a come back for the 2020 season ? It does not have to be U of M pushing Harbaugh out, when it is losses like that.

UNC, Mack I thought it was time you left Texas, but you ran a respectable program, you won a Championship, had you gotten the backup qb some playing time earlier in the season you may have won a second when you played Alabama. I thought it was strange higher based on your age, to go back into the game and my friend have done one hell of a great job. You deserve more than I am giving you. You will be 3-1 by this time next Sunday and are on your way to a bowl game. Congrats, you are doing it the right way and it is paying off.
